AIR
POLLUTION CONTROL MANUAL - CASANZ, 2nd Edition, 1990,
343 pages, hardcover TO QUIT STOCKS
This manual is the basis of the Air
Pollution Control courses conducted from time to time by
the Society. It is designed to give a practical guide to
air pollution control of a number of the major types of
air pollution. The manual begins by discussing air
pollution in general and the various forms of existing
legislation for controlling air pollution. Since the
occurrence of air pollution is greatly influenced by
meteorology, an important chapter is devoted to this
subject. There are chapters on Sizing Stacks, Oil and
Gas Combustion, Solids Combustion, Mechanical
Collectors, Electrostatic Precipitators, Gas Scrubbing
and Fabric Filtration, Control of Industrial Odours,
Hydrocarbon Emission Control, Industrial Dust Control,
Dust in the Atmosphere, Control of Dust from Open Cut
Coal Mines and Industrial Self Monitoring. An appendix
contains the Australian Standard for the use of the
Standard Ringelmann and Australian Standard Miniature
Smoke Charts. It is a very useful reference for
environmental practitioners who deal with industrial
emissions, whether they are government regulators,
senior industrial plant operational staff or specialist
advisers. |

INDUSTRIAL ODOUR CONTROL MANUAL -
CASANZ, March 1998, approx 300 pages, softcover
This manual is the basis of the
Industrial Odour Control courses conducted from time to
time by the Society. After an introduction that shows
that odours were a problem well before the 20th century,
the basics of our olfactory sensory system are
presented, which emphasises the considerable variation
in people's ability to detect odours. The subsequent
chapters cover a range of subjects - Odour Measurement
Methods, Odour Assessment Criteria and Odour
Regulations, Dispersion of Odours and their Modelling,
Community Attitudinal Surveys, Community Consultation,
Design of Ventilation Systems for Buildings, Design of
Process Ventilation Systems, Incineration, Odour Control
by Wet Scrubbing, Odour Control by Chlorine Dioxide and
Hydrogen Peroxide, Odour Control by Activated Carbon and
Other Solid Adsorbers, Biofiltration Technology Odour
and VOC Control, and Odour Neutralising Materials. The
publication concludes with descriptions of a number of
case studies. These describe actual cases involving an
animal by-products plant, the printing industry, a batch
polymerisation plant and a polyester resin plant.

AUSPLUME FOR WINDOWS TRAINING COURSE
- CASANZ, January 1998, 25 pages, softcover
This manual is the basis of the
Ausplume Training courses conducted from time to time by
the Society. The manual begins with a brief history of
the Ausplume model and its current status under the
various regulatory regimes in Australia and New Zealand,
the ten steps to modelling and an understanding of plume
behaviour provides a logical basis to the more specific
aspects of using the Ausplume model. The latter includes
gathering meteorological data, source characterisation,
buildings and similar effects, terrain effects,
background concentrations, choosing receptors, running
the model and interpretation of results. The notes
conclude with timely warnings on the limitations of the
model and comments on other models. |

News release: Nigel
Gibson, AEATechnology; Michael Bull, Over Arup and Partners;
Alison Vincent, Hyder Consulting and Ton Van Harreveld, OdourNet
will be amongst the speakers at this important conference,
chaired by John Hobson, WRc on 23rd March at The Royal College
of Physicians in London
Tuesday, 23rd March, 2004
The Royal College of Physicians,
Regent's Park, London. NW1 4LE
The conference will examine the new standards proposed under
the draft H4 Odour guidance, and the development and
implementation of measures undertaken to mitigate these
problems. Case studies will include landfill and waste
treatment, heavy industrial and wastewater treatment and
intensive livestock situations and the controversial issue of
health risks from odorous emissions will also be covered.
The conference will be of interest to all those involved with
odour and air quality issues and of particular relevance to
environmental consultants, local authorities, planners, site
operators and managers, process and design engineers and
environmental scientists.
